EMANGUZI – A woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to sell an albino child to a traditional healer from Emanguzi.
According to police reports, the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members were conducting an operation at Emanguzi area looking for a missing child, four-year-old Maneliswa Ntombela, who was reported as missing as of 28 June 2018. Maneliswa was last seen on 21 June 2016 at about 7pm walking with his cousin to a nearby church. He never returned back home.
While investigating this case, police followed up on information about a 28-year-old woman in the area who was allegedly trying to sell a child who was an albino for R100 000 to a well-known community member who is a traditional healer.
The police officials managed to trace the woman and she was arrested on 1 July 2016. A case of human trafficking was opened at Emanguzi police station and she was charged. The suspect appeared in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 4 July 2016 and the case was remanded to 12 July 2016 for bail application.
Meanwhile, litte Maneliswa is still missing and police are still appealing to the community to assist them with information about the whereabouts of the missing child.
