The Sunfoil Dolphins have had a major reshuffle in management, from managerial filtering right down to coaching staff.
The first big blow came when long serving CEO Jesse Chellan was replaced by business mogul Pete De Wet, the latest change has been enforced in the coaching staff with Grant Morgan coming in as the new head coach at the franchise.
Chief Executive Officer De Wet spoke to Durban Zone he was quoted saying: ” The Sunfoil Dolphins brand needed to be changed, he believes a team like the Cell C Sharks became well renowned because of their skillful marketing and that is exactly the same route which they will be looking to embark on to make the Dolphins once again a household name.”
De Wet also added that they are working on strategies to improve crowd attendance, he also welcomed transformation as mandated by Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula who has suspended Cricket South Africa from bidding for any major tournaments in the near future until they meet the requirements.
In the dressing room the Durban franchise will no longer have the services of two long serving Proteas in David Miller and Kyle Abbott, the pair have moved onto to greener pastures at the Warriors and Knights respectively.
New coach Morgan comes in with a wealth of experience having coached the KZN inland Academy side, had a stint as Assistant coach at the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League just to name a few.
The ship has certainly been steered in a different direction, only time will tell how the KZN outfit will fair, however with the leadership of De Wet and Morgan one does feel brighter days are ahead.
