DURBAN – Two men were killed in a horror crash on the M4 after their VW Polo smashed into the guard rails at 1:30 am on Sunday, November 13.
The victims, aged 23 and 29 died on the scene of the crash. Both men were trapped in the wreckage when Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene, at Quality Street off ramp. Once freed from the wreckage, both men were declared dead on the scene as an assessment revealed that both had sustained fatal injuries. The mangled wreckage was inaccessible and the Durban Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to get the men out.
The men had been traveling north on the M4 highway and two other vehicles were involved in the accident, including a taxi full of passengers. SAPS were on the scene and it is alleged that one driver was charged with drunken driving.
“A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Wentworth SAPS,” said SAPS corporate communications officer, Captain Nqobile Gwala.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are unknown at this stage, however, SAPS are investigating further.
