NATIONAL – Social Media platforms has been filled with the concern and anger of the public after the remains of 2 white lions were found mutilated in Stockpoort, Lephalale (Ellisras) last week. These lions were found with their heads and paws chopped off.
Yesterday (31 May 2016) three Mozambican men were arrested in Giyani, Limpopo, after they were caught trying to sell two lion heads and eight lion paws.
According to Col. Ronel Otto, police spokesperson, it was a team effort between members of the Livestock Theft Unit, which is also a part of the Rhino Task Team, and officials from SAN-Parks that worked as undercover buyers to catch these suspects.
Two other similar incidents were reported in Bela-Bela and Groblersdal, where lions were found with their heads and paws removed.
The three suspects will appear in court tomorrow (2 June 2016).
