PHOENIX – The men accused of killing helpless gran, Radika Roopnarain (80) in cold blood at her home in Falcon Road, Phoenix, in July this year, have appeared before the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court earlier this week, after police arrested them last Friday.
KwaMashu Task Team arrested two suspects aged 23 and 28 who were wanted for murder, attempted murder and house robbery.
On Saturday July 9, at about 7.15pm, Radika Roopnarian (80) was at her home in Falcon Road, with her family when they were accosted by five unknown suspects who robbed them of their belongings including cash and jewellery.
The old woman and her son were both shot and taken to hospital where she later died. A case of murder and house robbery was opened at KwaMashu police station. Police worked tirelessly, investigating the case until the suspects were arrested. The search for the outstanding suspects is on-going and their arrest is imminent. The investigating officer have also linked the arrested suspects to a business robbery where a food outlet in Malandela Road was robbed by three gunmen who fled with undisclosed amount of cash last month. Suspects have also been charged for business robbery.
