DURBAN – The Durban Central SAPS conducted a crime awareness campaign  at The Workshop Shopping Center at 10 am on Tuesday December, 6.

The theme for the annual  campaign was, ‘crime prevention is better than cure.’ Gathering at The Workshop’s Gugu Dlamini park, the SAPS band entertained  the public before Lieutenant Colonel Thuli Mvuyana and Captain Khephu Ndlovu, from Durban Central SAPS addressed the crowd. The Durban Central social crime prevention, family violence unit addressed issues like illegal abortion,  ATM theft, con artist crime and cellphone theft. The public were urged not to carry large amounts of cash during the festive season and to be vigilant on the streets.  Members of the public were also warned against reporting false crimes. “We find crimes are reported falsely for insurance purposes,” said Captain Khephu Ndlovu.

The busy market  was an ideal spot for the campaign that drew a substantial crowd. “The event was a great success, as the SAPS distributed pamphlets to the public,” said Ndlovu.
