Bringing home the gold, Wayde van Niekerk’s record breaking performance saw South African’s celebrating the new World Record for the 400 m sprint clocked at an impressive time of 43. 03 s, 15 seconds faster than Michael Johnson’s 1999 record.
Old favorite, Chad le Clos won two silver medals, when he completed the men’s 100 m butterfly in 51.14 s. and the men’s 200 m butterfly in 1:45.20 s.
Cameron van der Burgh followed suit when he won a silver medal for his time of 58.69 s in the men’s 100 m breath stroke.
Luvo Manyonga grabbed another silver medal for South Africa winning second place for men’s long jump with an amazing 8,37 m jump.
The South African mens rowing team won one more silver medal for the country with Shaun Keeling and Lawrence Brittan completing the race in a time of 7:02.51 s.
