DURBAN NORTH – Shortly after 12pm today, Marshall Security were alerted to an attempted housebreaking on Edgley Road in Parkhill, Durban North. A homeowner reported that a male suspect entered his garage on his property through the roof and attempted to steal a bicycle from the premises, however the suspect was disturbed by the owner and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
A description of the suspect was distributed to all available vehicles in the area by the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre and a male matching the description was found running down Northumberland Place. At the time of sighting the suspect, a second call was received from a resident in the same area who reported that forced entry had been gained into the garage on his property and gymnasium equipment had been stolen.
Armed reaction officers apprehended the man who was found to be in possession of the equipment and who was later positively identified by the homeowner in Edgley Road.
The suspect was arrested on site and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
