Rape accused gets 50 years imprisonment

Accused found guilty for possession of child pornography

On Friday, April 22, the Durban Regional Court convicted and sentenced Sinikelo Ismail Dubazane, 29, to 50 years’ imprisonment for two counts of rape and two counts of robbery for crimes he committed in December 2011 and July 2012.

 Dubazane confronted a then 33-year-old woman at her place of residence in Morningside where he robbed her of her belongings at knifepoint and then proceeded to rape her, after which he fled.

 In July 2012, he also raped a then 56-year-old woman at her place of residence, he threatened to kill her at knifepoint. and then robbed her of her belongings

Cases of rape and house robbery were opened at Mayville police station and they were transferred to Brighton Beach Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

After an extensive inquiry the  investigating officers managed to track the accused after he had been arrested for numerous cases of housebreaking in the area. In 2014, he was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for each housebreaking case. After his arrest Dubazane was charged for these rape and robbery cases. He was linked to both rape cases through DNA samples and an identification parade.

He was sentenced to 15 years for each rape, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and 5 years for another robbery.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General  Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Brighton Beach FCS detectives in their diligence and successfully putting the accused behind bars.
