Pupils killed on way to school

UPDATE 9.23AM: Paramedics have reported that four were declared dead on scene (code blue), four required immediate attention (code red), two were serious injured (code yellow) and seven sustained minor injuries (code green).

UPDATE 9AM: Russell Merring, spokesperson for ER24 who is currently on scene confirmed that there were 4 fatalities and 20 injured.  All were pupils

Initial Report 8.30AM:

Back-to-school high spirits were crushed when a horric accident resulted in the death of a number of pupils, this morning

According to police, eight children were killed and many more injured on Ngcebo Road, KwaMashu,  at around 8:30am on their way to school this morning.

The taxi transporting the children crashed into a bus. Paramedics and emergency services are currently on the scene. Police spokesperson, Lt Col Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident and said: “Eight children were killed. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.”
