
PARIS – Portugal defied all odds to claim their maiden European Championship title. The Portuguese carried the underdogs tag heading into the final against the hosts France, despite losing their captain Cristiano Ronaldo early in the first half they showed hunger and determination to win the match and the cup.
After regulation it was still a stalemate, only until Eder was introduced during extra time, his strike gave Ronaldo and co their first ever taste of silverware on the international stage.
Qualification for Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup is next on the agenda for Portugal.
