PHOENIX – EThekwini Municipality’s Phoenix Millennium Market is currently undergoing renovations which commenced in May and will continue until the end of June 2016. These upgrades have not affected operations.
Assistant Manager at the Market, Cynthia Dlamini, said the City has made provisions for a temporary marquee to be set up while work is being done to improve the facility.
“The City appreciates that our markets and traders play a large part in the sustainability of the City’s economy and every effort is being made to ensure that they run their businesses in a conducive environment,” she said.
Dlamini said more than 200 traders depend on the income generated from the market for their livelihoods, and therefore the marquee had been set inside the market’s yard so businesses would continue while the facility is being renovated.
Over and above the upgrade of the facility, the renovations will include cleaning the market and traders’ stalls, cleaning the facility’s roof and floors as well as the painting of the market, Dlamini said.
The market is operational seven days a week from 7am to 5pm.
