KHARAWASTAN- The SAPS are urging parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts and teach them to not talk to or accept sweets from strangers after a new drug lab, producing ‘jelly babies’ was uncovered in Hawk Street, Chatsworth, just days ago. The lab was located not too far off from several primary schools in the area.
According to police reports, the intelligence driven operation was conducted on 20 May 2016 by the members of the Durban Flying Squad and Organised Crime at Durban Central at Hawk Street. The members acted on information about the suspects in possession of drugs. The members proceeded to a said place where the new drug called “The Jelly Babies” was being produced. An assortment of fondant-icing-like items in the shape of sweets; chemicals; and plastic trays used to mould the drugs, were also found.
It is still investigated if this drug has been sold to any school children. Three suspects aged 27 and 39 were arrested for possession of drugs. The laptop and gas guns were also recovered from the suspects. They will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon.
