QUEENSBURGH – One person has been killed and another is fighting for his life in a Durban Hospital after a head on collision on Sarnia Road in Hillary Durban on Friday night just after 10pm.
Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage. Two vehicles had collided head on before one rolled several times coming to rest on its roof. One of the drivers were ejected from the vehicle and had unfortunately passed away before paramedics arrival due to the severity of his injuries. The second driver was severely entrapped and had sustained critical injuries. Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilised the man in the wreckage by placing him on a manual ventilator whilst the Durban Fire Department used the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the man free from the wreckage. Once freed the patient was carefully extricated before being rushed by Rescue Care to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.
