DURBAN – One person was killed and two seriously injured as their vehicle smashed into the rear of another vehicle on the N3 near Tollgate  Bridge just after 3:30 am on Saturday morning.

A man in his twenties was entrapped in the wreckage that blocked most of the highway. As Rescue Care Paramedics arrived the man was declared deceased on the scene, having sustained major injuries. The Durban Fire Department used the jaws of life to free the deceased from the wreckage. Two other occupants from the vehicle had sustained critical injuries and were stabilised by Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support Paramedics on the scene before they were transported to nearby hospitals for the further care that they required.

A motor cyclist in his twenties died after an accident on Essenwood Road near Ashford Place on Saturday evening around 6 pm.

The critically injured biker died  in the early hours of the morning after being admitted to hospital.  The biker was sprawled in the roadway when Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene. The critically injured biker was quickly placed on a ventilation before he was transported to a nearby hospital for the urgent medical care he required. In addition to the motor bike, two vehicles were involved in the severe collision that left one vehicle overturned. One other patient had sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

Three separate accidents in the Bluff on Saturday left five people injured.

A motor cyclist was knocked down at 10:30 am on Tara Road,  near Beach Road. Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabalised the biker on the scene, tending to his moderate injuries before he was transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.

Then around 2:30 pm Paramedics were called to the corner of Bluff Road and Old Mission Road where two vehicles had collided in the junction.  Three occupants from both vehicles had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required. Bluff Road  was closed as emergency personal worked to clear the scene, littered with the badly damaged vehicles.

Another biker was knocked down on Bluff Road before Lighthouse Road just after 8:30 pm. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a vehicle and a bike had collided. The biker had sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

SAPS were on the scene of each accident to investigate further.
