
LA LUCIA – A man died in a fatal collision between two vehicles on the M41 highway, west bound near La Lucia Ridge at approximately 10 pm tonight .
The driver of the vehicle, a man aged 30, was declared deceased on the scene. The man suffered severe injuries and went into cardiac arrest succumbing to his injuries despite Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation efforts.
Five other occupants sustained moderate injuries, with the two rear passengers, a male aged 20 and a female aged 50, entrapped in the wreckage.
Marshall Security was alerted to the collision and reaction officers were immediately dispatched. Reports from the incident reveal that two vehicles collided at high speed in a rear impact fashion, forcing the front vehicle off the road way and into a concrete barrier.
The occupants of the rear vehicle sustained moderate injuries and were attended to on scene before being taken to hospital for further care.
Ethekwini Fire and Rescue officers worked fervently to extricate the injured using the Jaws of Life. Once freed they were placed onto specialised stretchers for suspected neck and spinal cord injury, and taken by ambulance under the care of Netcare911 Advanced Life Support paramedics, to a nearby hospital for further care.
The cause of the incident is unknown and the scene will form subject of a SAPS investigation.
