PRETORIA – Convicted murderer and alleged Phoenix gang leader, Nithia Chinnasamy (48), was brutally killed in Dalpark, Brakpan, yesterday morning, after he was shot at more than 20 times outside his friend’s home, on his way back to prison from day parole.
Chinnasamy was convicted of murder of an 18-year-old in 2000 and was sentenced to ten years imprisonment. He was on the verge of being released and was on day parole when he was gunned down by two men dressed in police uniform.
Chinnasamy’s family stated that he had reformed his life in prison and was looking forward to his release to rekindle his relationship with them, however they claimed he had too many enemies to make amends.

Johannesburg provincial spokesperson, Captain Kay Makubela, confirmed that a 48-year- old Indian male from Durban was shot whilst in his car in Pretoria yesterday morning. “The man was on parole, when he was accosted by armed men and shot several times in his vehicle. Two different cartridges from a 9mm and R5 firearm was found emptied out at the scene. No arrests have been made as yet.”
His body will be returning to Durban today and his funeral will be held in Phoenix tomorrow, September 7.
