It has been a very lacklustre season for KZN sides in top flight football this season.
Golden Arrows realistically look like the only KwaZulu Natal outfit that might play in the Absa Premiership next season.
Arrows look poised to just finish inside the top 10, however no silverware is possible for the side based in Lamontville.
Maritzburg United’s hopes to survive in the top flight are very slim but, anything can happen in football, soccer is a very funny game, one moment you are up the other you are down.
The Team of Choice’s character will really be put to the test as the season draws to a close on May 21, their final outing will be away at relegation threatened University of Pretoria.
Their meeting will certainly decide whether they will automatically get relegated to the lower division or they will have a chance to fight for a PSL spot in a 3 team playoff with all 3 sides going head to head home and away.
The rules stipulate that the team that finishes top of the National First Division gets automatic promotion into the Premier Soccer League, while the 15th placed side will play in a 3 team playoff consisting of the 2nd and 3rd placed sides in the NFD.
PSL bottom three sides, Maritzburg United, University of Pretoria and Jomo Cosmos will fight to stay in the top flight, while Baroka FC, Highlands Park and Witbank Spurs will seek promotion.
Unfortunately, Amazulu will have to spend another season in the lower league after failing to finish in the top three.
Usuthu will have a new man in charge next season after Steve Barker failed to meet the target of automatic promotion into the PSL, Barker was sacked by the Club.
Former Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley will lead the side until the end of the season, the man who will be in charge next season is former Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas.
The 2016/2017 season might prove to be more productive for the coastal teams but plenty needs to be done during the winter transfer window.
