BRICKFIELD – A security guard in his forties has been left critically injured after he was shot when returning from a bank on Garth Road off Brickfield Road, just before 12pm today.
Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a male in his forties in a critical condition. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on scene who had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body. Once the man had been stabilised, he was transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
Lt Colonel Shooz Magudulela, provincial spokesperson from the SAPS, confirmed the incident. He said: “The security guard has been coming from the bank when he was approached by four suspects at gunpoint. The suspects opened fire before taking an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds on the left arm and left side of the body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition. Charges of armed robbery and attempted murder was opened at Mayville police station for investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage.”
