Husband convicted after shoving can into wife’s genitals

tin2NEWCASTLE – The Newcastle Regional Court convicted and sentenced the accused a 35-year-old, who was husband to the victim, for 12 years imprisonment for rape and sexual assault of his wife (33). During May 2010 the accused came home whilst his wife was already asleep, raped her and tried to insert a can of fish in her private part. He had allegedly accused his wife of infidelity whilst assaulting her. A case of rape and assault was reported in the Newcastle Police Station and the docket was also transferred to FCS for thorough investigation. The accused was arrested for rape and assault. It appeared that he was also wanted for a murder case that was reported in the area. He was also charged for that and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for that murder.

In a separate conviction On Wednesday,26 July ,Newcastle Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 26-year-old male to life imprisonment for rape and kidnapping. On 5 October 2010 at about 2pm in the Charlestown area outside Newcastle, a then 11-year-old victim was on her way home when she was accosted by the accused. He dragged her into the nearby bushes and raped her. A case of rape was opened at Charlestown Police Station and the docket was transferred to Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for further investigation. Members worked tirelessly until the accused was brought to book on the same day of the incident. He appeared in the Newcastle Regional Court several times until he was successfully prosecuted and sentenced.

The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa said . “All sexual offenders will be sent to prison so that they can face the consequences for their actions. This should be a warning as police will make sure that criminals are brought to book,”.
