Hawks bid to curb drug dealing in Durban

DURBAN – Four suspects aged between 25 and 49 arrested and charged for dealing in drugs will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court , today Monday, 6 June.

An operation was conducted by Hawks, Crime Intelligence, EThekwini Inner South Cluster and Phoenix Task Team members in Phoenix area Durban on Friday 3 June reported that a tavern in the area was searched and drugs including 400 slopes of rock cocaine, 50 ecstasy tablets, 50g of cocaine stone, 50 slopes of cocaine powder, 153 rock smoking pipes with a street value of R167 050 were seized. Members also seized R 138 780 cash suspected to be the proceeds from drug trading.

On Thursday night Hawks, Crime Intelligence and Shongweni K9 members arrested a 47-year-old male for dealing drugs at his Chatsworth residence. He was found in possession of 521 heroin capsules, 124 ecstasy tablets, 49 mandrax tablets, 19 packets of powder cocaine, 99 heroin straws, 138 grams of cat and 5 grams of rock cocaine. The street value of the drugs seized was stated to around R70 000.

Members worked the entire night and proceeded to Bayview area near Chatsworth where a 32 year old female was arrested for possession of drugs. She was found in possession of 123 heroin capsules, 6 moons, 7 pieces of crack cocaine and 22 mandrax tablets.

Both suspects appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 3 June.
