NEWCASTLE – On Friday, 12 August, Madadeni detectives arrested four suspects for kidnapping an 18-year-old male. It is alleged that the suspects kidnapped him from his home at Madadeni and demanded a ransom from his father for his release. A case of kidnapping was opened at Newcastle police station and an investigation commenced. Police officers’ determination to find the victim led to the arrest of the suspects. Two of the suspects were arrested whilst holding the victim hostage and the other two were apprehended near the ATM waiting to withdraw the money they had demanded. The victim was handed over to his parents and was taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspects will appear at the Newcastle Magistrates’ Court soon.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the investigating officers for solving the case. “We will ensure that we protect all the citizens of this country and apprehend criminals who prey on defenseless individuals,” she said.
