PIETERMARITZBURG – On Tuesday night (31 May) four Pietermaritzburg police officers were arrested on charges of corruption when they accepted bride money from a suspect that was caught with R5000 worth of drugs.
After accepting the bride money of R5000 the suspect was released by the police, the officers were then apprehended by members of the Crime Intelligence Unit.
According to Lt.Col. Robert Netshiunda, Spokesperson of the Hawks said that Captain Lindiwe Khumalo (47), Sargent Subusiso Ngubane (42), Constable Phelelani Nzimande (31) and Reserve Constable Sibusisi Ngcamu (46) was arrested on Tuesday night in Pietermaritzburg.
He also added that the bribe money along with the ceased drugs were found in the police at the time of arrest.
All four police officers were granted bail of R500 each. They are expected to appear in Court on 8 July 2016.
