INTERNATIONAL – All eyes are on sustainable farming and world hunger with World Food Day, an international awareness drive on October, 16.
People all around the world unite on World Food Day to play a part in ending world hunger and the aim is to make a change in this lifetime. Food drives,education on sustainable framing methods, and nutritional meal planning are relevant topics for the day.
Proclaimed by the United Nations in 1979, World Food Day marks the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in 1945. While the ultimate focus is always on the undernourished world population, each year there is a theme and this year World Food Day is highlighting the environment and how to adapt to a changing climate.
According to the FAO website, this year’s global FAO message is: “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.” Rural subsistence farmers are the focus of World Food Day 2016 since it is understood that climate change effects them most.
