PINETOWN – The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) have yet again assisted police in recognizing suspected rapists. On Monday, 8 August the Pinetown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Mondli Polotsi Nxumalo (27) to 12 years imprisonment for rape. The incident occurred after the 19- year-old victim was coming from a friend’s place when she met the accused, he then forcefully pulled the victim and threatening her with the firearm and a bush knife. She tried to scream for help but the accused threatened to kill her, he then raped her several times.The victim exposed the matter to her aunt and it was reported to the police,after being transferred to Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation, the accused was then arrested. He appeared at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court and was kept in custody until prosecution.
In another case at the Empangeni Regional Court, two rapists-Paulos Mngomezulu (63) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and Bongumusa Mashaba (16) was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment. Mngomezulu raped a 15-year-old victim several times between May 2013 and November 2014. The incident was reported at Empangeni SAPS and the docket was transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offense Unit (FCS). He was convicted and sentenced. Empangeni FCS made sure that the other rapist, Mashaba who raped the victim at her homestead was arrested, kept in custody and convicted. He was given 8 years imprisonment for rape.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni congratulated the FCS units for sending the sexual offenders to book. “We will always make sure that criminals who prey on vulnerable women and children are kept behind bars,” she said.
