Three suspects were arrested after opening a false hijacking case, in Tongaat.
According to the driver of the vehicle, he and his two passengers were traveling along Watson Highway road when they were allegedly stopped by an unknown person who requested a lift.
It is alleged that the hitchhiker pointed a weapon towards the driver who was instructed to drive towards Umdloti.
The hijacker fled the scene when the vehicle met an accident and no valuables were stolen. A sworn statement was taken from the three occupants who stated they were hijacked.
Following an investigation by detectives, it was established that all three were lying and had opened a false case of hijacking. All three suspects were arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice.
They will appear at the Verulam Magistrate’s court.
