North and South beaches in Durban have been closed due to high seas and storm damage.

The decision to close beaches has been taken as a precautionary measure – to ensure the safety of residents and holidaymakers.

There is extensive structural damage on Durban’s beaches following heavy rains that started on Sunday 24/07/2016. There is also a huge amount of flotsam and jetsam as well as organic matter in the water.

A major clean-up operation will be undertaken. The public will be notified once the beaches have been re-opened.
