DURBAN NORTH – Police have clamped down on offending drivers who attempted to evade the law, this past weekend, after they set up a roadblock on the M41, on Friday (May 20), that saw at least six drivers arrested for driving under the influence.
Spokesperson for Durban North SAPS, Lt Raymond Deokaran, confirmed that six drivers were arrested, and were reportedly trying to fool police officers.
It seemed that these brazen offenders had allegedly come up with a scheme where they would abandon their vehicles, and some have gone to the extent of jumping into the passenger seat, claiming to not be the driver of their vehicle.
“One driver threw his keys onto the road and jumped into the passenger seat, claiming that the driver had run away. He wasn’t aware that diligent officers had already noticed the drama unfolding,” said Lt Deokaran.
It was reported that due to the increase in accidents and death on the road because of drunk driving, the Durban North SAPS have taken to setting up road blocks along the Gateway area. “The offence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the SAPS,” added Lt Deokaran.
