GREYVILLE – Durban High School held their 150th birthday and Founder’s Day celebrations from June 2 to June 4. The first of the celebratory events was held on Thursday, June 2 which was an Old Boys Golf Day. On Friday, June 3, DHS hosted a 150th Old Boys assembly which thanked Old Boys for supporting the school over the years, as well as the 150th banquet dinner in the evening which saw around 750 Old Boys from all over the world in attendance at Greyville Convention Centre. On Saturday, June 4, the much anticipated 150th Founder’s Day event took place and was a complete success with numerous crowds of supporters filling the stands and surrounding the sports field where rugby games between DHS and Maritzburg College were played. Hockey games against Maritzburg College were also played at Riverside Sports Complex. Don Speirs, Class of 1971 Old Boy and current Trustee of the DHS Foundation Trust, was the Guest of Honour on the day. After the first XV rugby game, DHS hosted all guests at a sundowner cocktail function which was followed by the “Rocking Through The Decades” music concert in the DC Thompson School Hall and was, overall, a wonderful day full of entertainment and camaraderie.
