GOUTVILLE – A child drowned while crossing the Mvoti River at about 2 pm on Sunday, January 29.
The child (12) was swept away by the current when he lost his footing in the river. IPSS Medical Rescue’s Aquatic Team, Police Divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with Kwadukuza Fire Department & Lifeguards were called to the scene where friends of the victim showed paramedics where to search.
Divers searched for the child and recovered his body from a depth of 7 meters and the case was handed over the KwaDukuza SAPS. “An inquest case has been opened at the KwaDukuza Station,” said Thulani Zwane, provincial spokesperson for the SAPS.
After the recent string of Virginia drownings community members are urged to exercise caution.
