Shabalala passed away at the Life Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria earlier this morning. He was admitted to hospital due to ill health. Over the past few years his health deteriorated, resulting in him retiring from the group in 2014
Ladysmith Black Mambazo are currently on tour in the US. Group manager Xolani Majozi has reportedly said that the group have been informed and are devastated. Shabalala was reportedly with his wife, Thokozile Shabalala, during his last moments.
