BRAEMAR – A young boy was shot dead when an elderly man allegedly mistook him for a monkey in a tree.
The 12-year-old child was perched in the tree, cutting guavas when the 87-year old man took his shot gun and fired at the boy. “The man shot at the boy, thinking he was a monkey,” said Col Thulani Zwane, provincial spokesperson for the SAPS. Monkeys are a nuisance in the South Coast area according to residents. Apart from climbing the trees for fruit, they steal fruit from homes.
The man is to appear in the Umzinto magistrates court today.
