WESTVILLE – The Ethekwini Inner and Outer West police arrested four suspects aged between 22 and 36 for hijacking, murder and house robbery. The suspects were found in connection with the death of a 46-year -old Westville homeowner who was shot and killed in front of his family in his driveway.

Three suspects were found inside the vehicle they had allegedly used in the commission of a house robbery at Empangeni and a Westville murder. It is alleged that on November 5, unknown gunmen accosted a homeowner in Chearsley Road, fired shots at him and he returned fire. The victim, 46, died at the scene of his home, however, he managed to wound one suspect in the exchange of gunfire. All the criminals fled in their getaway vehicle.

A case of murder was opened at Westville police station for investigation and the search of the murder suspects ensued. The suspects allegedly took their injured accomplice to hospital and hijacked another vehicle in the Hillcrest policing area.

With the help of the tracking system the vehicle was recovered and three suspects were immediately arrested. The fourth suspect (26) who had a gunshot wound was traced at a hospital where he was kept under police guard and was charged for murder.

Suspects were charged for car hijacking and murder. They appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court today. The injured suspect will appear in court as soon as he is released from hospital.

“The determination by the police to arrest the criminals is commended. We will continue to ensure that criminals are successfully prosecuted for their dreadful acts,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
