DURBAN – An accountant was murdered earlier today during an armed robbery when two suspects broke into his office on Cowey Road. The 47-year old man worked at Royal Travel in Durban where he was shot earlier this morning. “It was an armed robbery involving two males,” said Jaco Stoltz Head of Security for GFS security.
Police said that the robbers had received information about R3 million in cash that was on the premises. The two armed men broke in to steal the money and shot the accountant on site. Stoltz who was at Cowey Park across the road from Royal Travel confirmed that the robbery occurred sometime after 7:30am adding that he did not hear any gunshots and could not be certain of the exact time of the attack.
Police were on the scene questioning Royal Travel employees and making arrangements to review CCTV footage. Further investigations are underway.
Police spokesperson, Cpt Thulani Zwane, confirmed the incident and told DurbanZone journalists that the suspects were still at large. “A case of murder has been opened and is being investigated,” he said.
