The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa has called for the citizens of the province to come forward with any information that could assist the police in thoroughly investigating two separate murder incidents that were reported over the weekend.
On Saturday, 11 February at 10:40pm, a family were at their rondavel in the Ndaleni area when they were attacked. Four family members who were identified as Cicilia Chiliza (60), Dumisani Chiliza (35); Nkosinathi Masango (27) and Noxolo Ndawonde (11) were brutally killed while in the rondavel by unknown suspects. A four-year-old child was wounded during the shooting and was rushed to hospital for treatment. The suspects fled the scene after the incident. The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage. Four counts of murder and attempted murder were opened at Richmond police station.
In another incident, three men were shot and killed in the Ematimatolo area near Greytown on Saturday, 11 February 2017 at 6:45pm. It is alleged that the men were on their way home from a local traditional function when they were approached by unknown suspects who opened fire on them. They were identified as relatives, Menzi Mkhize (38); Busani Mkhize (38) and Siphesihle Mkhize (20). Three counts of murder were opened at Ematimatolo police station and no arrest made.
“Our police officers will work around the clock to trace those behind these attacks. I condemn these killings in the strongest of terms and believe that both attacks in two separate communities in the province was uncalled for. We cannot accept that people are killed in such a horrific and brutal manner. It is becoming a trend for people to be killed in such a manner either because of revenge or domestic related matters,” Major General Langa said.
