MONTCLAIR – Today, four police officials have appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on charges of kidnapping, theft, extortion and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and they were remanded in custody until 27 June 2016. This follows their arrest on 17 June 2016. It is alleged that the victim was kidnapped, assaulted and had money extorted from him by the suspects.
The complainant reported the matter to police at Montclair and the investigation was conducted by detectives from SAPS Brighton Beach. Following a swift investigation, the suspects were apprehended. All the four suspects are stationed at the Umlazi Tactical Response Team.
The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa commended detectives for acting so swiftly in apprehending the four suspects. “Their actions are highly unacceptable as these police officers are the ones who are supposed to be protecting the citizens of the country. We will continue to arrest, discipline and even dismiss members of the SAPS who participate in criminal activities and tarnish the name of our organisation. I want to thank the complainant for placing his trust in law abiding police officers and reporting the incident so that we can take action,” he said.
