DURBAN- A 2-year old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a Glenmore home in Durban around 2pm on Sunday.
Rescue Care Paramedics were called to the residence by neighborhood watch members after receiving the frantic call. On arrival at the scene paramedics found that the child had already passed away and he was declared deceased at the scene.
Col Thulani Zwane Provincial spokesperson for the SAPS; confirmed that the child was floating face down in the pool by the time his mother had found him, it is alleged that the boy was playing outside unsupervised whilst his mother was occupied in the house. “A case of inquest has been opened .We urge the public not to leave their children unattended, especially outside or near pools,” he said.
At this stage the exact circumstances leading up to the drowning are unknown, however, Umbilo SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.
Rescue Care Paramedics urge home owners to take the necessary precaution regarding pools. Please install pool nets and gates to prevent these any unfortunate incidents from occurring.
